Tom Robertson, PE

Retired President and Civil Engineering Consultant

What I Do:

I have served with CRANSTON for more than 50 years, 35 of them as president of the firm. Now “retired,” I continue to serve as a consultant for a wide variety of civil engineering, planning, urban design, land surveying, forensic and historic engineering projects throughout the Southeast. I currently focus my attention on assignments where my specialized talents can add value to our clients’ endeavors.

My Professional Experience:

As both a civil engineer and planner, my talents are especially suited for developing initial design concepts and conceiving overall plans for a wide variety of projects. I also specialize in designing projects that are sensitive to the context in which they are located.

As a planner, I have worked on successful plans that vary in scale, from regional master plans and downtown visions to development plans for individual tracts of land. For many of these, I have led multi-disciplinary teams and public participation processes to reach community results.

I work hard to bring fresh, conceptual, and strategic thinking to each assignment so that each is tailored to the individual circumstances and to the clients’ goals. As a land-use planner, I strive to arrange programs that meet human needs in ways that work with the natural and cultural landscape.

As a land surveyor, I strive to produce surveys that represent land title lines based on good field methods on the ground, in-depth studies of realty records, and careful platting in the office.
